Pirojpur is one of the under developed districts in Bangladesh. Pirojpur Technical School and College (TSC) is undergoing its activities for the poor population of this region very ardently. At present, the activities of this institute is related to UN's Millennium Development Goals which describes the achievement of the goal and strategy of poverty reduction that is National Strategy for Accelerated Poverty Reduction. TSC pirojpur is playing a pioneering role in reduction of poverty, empowerment of women, removing gender discrimination and sustainable development in this local area. It is also working to turn local people into human resources. TSC pirojpur was established in 1969. But its educational activities started in 1973. Its previous name was Vocational Training Institute (VTI) and Mr. Md. Safiul Huq was the first Superintendent of VTI. His joining date was 05.04.1973. Then Short Courses and Trade Courses were being introduced and seat capacity was 20 per Trade, in total 40 seats for two Trades and 80 seats for two years long trade courses. The first principal of Technical School and College was Mr. Md. Fayezul Bari. His joining date was 01.03.2003. The number of students started to increase after introducing SSC (Vocational) in the year of 1995 and HSC (Vocational) in the year of 2003. At present, there are four trades namely General Electrical Works Trade, General Electronics Trade, Dress Making Trade and Automotive Trade. It offers 30 seats for the class Nine (IX), Ten(X), Eleven (XI) and Twelve(XII). The total seat capacity at present is 480. Second Shift has been introduced at Secondary level and it holds 597 students at running session. When Trade Course was running, a Statistics Shows that 401 students were admitted from the year 1985 to 1994, 165 students took part in the board final examination and 119 students passed out. In the year 1995, the rate of Vocational Education was 0.7% only. At present, it has promoted to 8.00%. The statement stated above declares clearly that the eagerness for Vocational Education has been increased. Indeed, Vocational Education does not create educated unemployment. Rather it ensures employment opportunity for unemployed young people in home and abroad. Moreover, a lion share of National Income comes from Remittance which earns our human resources. If our manpower turns into skill human resources, our Remittance will be twofold. Only Vocational Education is able to produce skilled manpower. So, we all should be aware of vocational and technical education and creating social awareness.
